The sound of vinyl can be greatly improved by reducing unwanted vibrations between the record and the backing disc.

For this, the surfaces of the plate and the support disk must come into contact as tightly as possible. Standard clamps, which use the principle of weight pressure, have two disadvantages:

Excessive weight can increase the noise level when used with inexpensive vinyl turntables that do not have strong enough main bearings;

Instead of a tighter fit, heavy weight can have the opposite effect: the vinyl will buckle in the center and lose contact at the edges of the record.
